I was in a coma for a few days, lapsing into it a day or so after my last post. I don't remember any of this, of course, being in the coma, but I guess I was pretty close to not making it for awhile there. But I did, and life is very, very different now in pretty much every possible way. Anyway, it turns out that I have Type I diabetes and apparently have had it since about August. I was in the hospital for about 10 days and during recovery I pretty much lost my eyesight completely making reading and writing impossible.
Happily everything is more or less under control now. Of course I now have to give myself 4 shots a day and I have to be on an extremely strict diet - yes, I'm now a vegan diabetic. The only thing I could do to restrict my diet more is to become Jewish and keep Kosher. Ha ha. The shot thing was extremely difficult for me as I had been known to literally pass out in movies with any type of syringe involvement. But now I can say that I have pretty much overcome one of my biggest phobias and can now fairly easily do things like get immunizations for travel and flu shots and things like this which I never could before.
Aside from medical stuff, I have a few other pieces of news: I got engaged over Christmas, and I got into one of my law schools with a merit scholarship! Yay on both counts :-) Also, J and I will now be staying together which makes us both very happy, but a little anxious about our respective academic careers. The next few months should be very interesting as we work all of this out.
Okay, so I'm happy to be back in the blogosphere and now I'm off to do some commenting.
Happy New Year!

Oh goodness! Glad to hear you are OK—I agree with Shelley about your matter-of-factness. (You were so matter of fact that when I started reading this post, I wondered if "coma" was a euphemism!)
And congrats on the engagement and your scholarship! You're going to law school!
Wow. I assumed you were just busy with school. I'm glad you're okay now and that your diabetes is under control. I've heard about this happening to other people too -- they think they're just tired or not feeling well, and then they suddenly become ill and find out they have diabetes.
Hey, keeping kosher should be easy for you -- no pork, check. No meat with dairy, no problem. Just don't become a macrobiotic raw diabetic vegan, please.
Congratulations on getting your life back in order AND getting engaged and getting a scholarship to law school! What a month. Glad you're back!
Wow! Glad you pulled through. How very, very scary.
Congrats on your engagement and getting into law school.
So glad you're okay...how scary! Your excuse for not posting for awhile is WAY better than mine ever are! Congratulations on law school!
Oh. My. God. We are all so grateful that you are ok.
Major congrats on the engagement and law school acceptance!
1. Glad to know you're doing better now.
2. Congrats!
3. Congrats again!
And I thought it was just the Christmas break that made my number of hits go down. You're excused!
Now what the heck am I supposed to do with this juicer I got you for Christmas?!
